Hodder Gauging Weir

img_0534 The flow gauging station on the River Hodder is unfortunately a major barrier to fish migration.  The fish, such as salmon and trout, dislike jumping from areas where the water is turbulent.  On this particular weir the fish attempt to jump at the edges where the flow speed is reduced, regrettably landing on an area where there is insufficient depth for them to swim any further.  This prevents them from reaching their preferred spawning grounds in the small becks of the upper catchment area.

The Trust is currently in the process of drawing up plans and deciding the best course of action to take in order to improve the situation on the Hodder.

The Atlantic Salmon Trust’s Annual Auction

The auction is set to begin mid January, but you can already bid on some of the lots right now! Take a look at the Atlantic Salmon Trust's website for further details, and keep an eye out for the Ribble Trust's unmissable package which features quality fishing opportunities on both the Ribble and Hodder. The auction is the AST's principal fundraising event which helps them continue their important work to secure the future of Atlantic salmon and sea trout.
