Boyces Brook

Boyces Brook flows through Ribchester where it immediately joins the main Ribble.  An old weir was discovered that was historically constructed to supply water to a mill.  The weir is now redundant, but being quite substantial in height, it posed a complete barrier to fish migration.

The weir prior to construction

Several pre-barrages were constructed in front of the weir to create a series of steps that fish could easily jump through.  A significant amount of Boyces Brook has now been opened up to migrating fish, and hopefully we will see some spawning in the coming years.
