The Trust aims to provide resources and experiences that promote an understanding of the water environment, maximise people’s enjoyment of the catchment and encourage environmental responsibility. TEACHERS The Ribble Catchment Conservation Trust (RCCT) is working to increase the awareness, understanding of, and enjoyment of the freshwater environments within the Ribble, Hodder and Calder catchments. We aim to: - Provide resources and experiences that promote an understanding of the water environment, - Maximise people’s enjoyment of the catchment, - Encourage environmental responsibility. TROUT-IN-THE-CLASSROOM This is a scheme to provide tanks with fish eggs in schools across the catchment to help get children more involved with their streams and environment in a very "hands on" way. The idea is for the children to rear the eggs to fry, which can then be released into a nearby stream increasing the indigenous population of trout (the eggs are sourced from local fish). The first tank was installed in Horton-in-Ribblesdale primary school in 2006 and was a great success, the fry being released into the stream in early 2007. Three further tanks are now to installed in January 2008 at Thorneyholme R.C. primary school at Dunsop Bridge, Brabins Endowed primary at Chipping and St. Leonards primary at Padiham. The Trust are looking to continue this scheme with further tanks later in 2008/2009. The Trust are grateful for the support of the Environment Agency and Green Partnership in the funding and running of the scheme.
